Scott Humphries
Scott Humphries is the principle director for the FWACB. He gained the position in the Fall of 2011. A native of Alleghany County, Virginia. He received a Bachelor of Music Education from James Madison University in 1989. Currently, he is continuing his work on a DMA from Boston University. Humphries has been recognized both nationally and internationally for his research and has been published in the international research journal Psychology of Music. He is also a published composer of music for concert band/wind ensemble. Humphries is currently the Director of Instrumental Studies and Music Education at Manchester College in North Manchester, Indiana. He is also the conductor for the Manchester Symphony Orchestra, a semi-professional community/college collaboration now in its 73rd season.
David Blackwell
David Blackwell joined the FWACB in 1988 and has been an Associate conductor since 1992. He is a graduate of Indiana University receiving a B.S. in Music Education and a M.S. in Education. He taught in the Ridgefarm, IL music dept. for three years before moving to the Wawasee Schools music dept. in Syracuse, IN where he taught for the next thirty-five years and served as its chair. As band director his groups won many first division awards at ISSMA Contests. Mr. Blackwell is a jazz clarinetist who performs regularly with several groups and an arranger/composer writing arrangements for the FWACB and the Embassy Anniversary Shows as well as for many school groups.
Susan Jehl
Susan Jehl is an associate conductor of the FWACB. She has been with FWACB since its inception in 1979. Sue graduated from Ball State University with a B.S.and a M.A. in music education. Sue has 25+ years of teaching band in Southwest Allen County Schools at Summit Middle School. Susan calls the clarinet section of the FWACB home, but you can also see her 'crashing on things' in the percussion section. Sue says, "The band has been a blessing for the performance opportunities it gives me, and for the music we have been able to share with the community."
